Chandrabal, Tarabal & Gurubal Calculator

Chandrabal measures the transiting Moon's relationship to your natal Moon sign (Rashi). The count is taken forward from your natal sign — if your Moon was in Cancer (4) at birth and the Moon is now in Libra (7), the count is 4. Counts of 1, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 are favorable; 4, 8, 12 are inauspicious; 2, 5, 9 are neutral.

Tarabal measures the transiting Moon's relationship to your birth nakshatra (Janma Nakshatra). The count is taken forward through the 27 nakshatras, then divided into a 9-position cycle called the Navatara Chakra (Nava Tara). This cycle repeats 3 times across the 27 nakshatras. Your current Tara (position in the cycle) tells you whether the Moon's nakshatra transit is personally auspicious.

Gurubal measures transiting Jupiter's relationship to your natal Moon sign — counted the same way as Chandrabal, but tracking Jupiter instead of the Moon. Jupiter, the most benefic planet in Vedic astrology, is considered favorable ("has Gurubala") when it transits the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, or 11th sign from your natal Moon; every other position is considered less favorable.

Ravibal measures transiting Sun's relationship to your natal Moon sign — again counted the same way as Chandrabal, tracking the Sun instead of the Moon. The Sun is considered favorable when it transits the 3rd, 6th, or 10th sign from your natal Moon; classical sources note that a remedial Graha-mukh puja to the Sun can offset an otherwise unfavorable position.
