The God Vishnu, one of the principal deities of Hinduism, one of the Hindu triad. He is considered as the Preserver or the sustainer. <br />Whenever the world is threatened by evil, chaos and destructive forces, Vishnu incarnates as an avatar to empower the good and to destroy evil, thereby restoring Dharma and relieving the burden of the Earth. Dasavatars are the ten primary incarnations of Lord Vishnu. These are - a fish [Matsya], a tortoise [Kurma], a boar [Varaha], a Man-lion [Narasimha], a dwarf [Vamana], Parashuram, Ram, Krishna, Gautam Buddha and Kalki. <br />
There are three types of idols of Lord Vishnu according to idolatry. Sthanaka means standing, Asana means sitting and Shayan means lying down or lying down.
