Bhagavad Gita Chapter 18, Verse 14: The Five Factors of Action
अधिष्ठानं तथा कर्ता करणं च पृथग्विधम् । विविधाश्च पृथक्चेष्टा दैवं चैवात्र पञ्चमम् ॥ १४ ॥
adhiṣhṭhānaṁ tathā kartā karaṇaṁ ca pṛithag-vidham vividhāś ca pṛithak cheṣhṭā daivaṁ chaivātra pañchamam
Meaning in English
The body (seat of action), the doer, the various instruments (senses and mind), the many different kinds of effort, and — the fifth — Divine Providence (Daivam): these are the five factors that together determine the outcome of every action.
Astrological Significance
This is the astrologer's verse. The fifth factor — Daivam (fate/providence) — is exactly what a birth chart measures. It explains why even hard-working, talented people sometimes fail: the fifth factor was not aligned. And why sometimes unexpected success arrives: Daivam was favorable.

How to Use This Shloka as a Remedy
Meditate on this verse when you feel frustrated that effort alone is not producing results. It restores humility and reminds the native that cosmic timing (Daivam) is a real and legitimate factor — not an excuse, but a truth.
Commentary
The inclusion of Daivam as the fifth and final factor is a stunning acknowledgment by the Gita that fate is real. This is not fatalism — the verse lists four factors under human control before naming the fifth. Free will operates within destiny.
