Bhagavad Gita Chapter 18, Verse 61: The Inner Guide

ईश्वरः सर्वभूतानां हृद्देशेऽर्जुन तिष्ठति । भ्रामयन्सर्वभूतानि यन्त्रारूढानि मायया ॥ ६१ ॥

īśhvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśhe 'rjuna tiṣhṭhati bhrāmayan sarva-bhūtāni yantrārūḍhāni māyayā

Meaning in English

O Arjuna, the Lord dwells in the hearts of all living beings, and by His maya He causes them to move, as if mounted on a cosmic machine.

Astrological Significance

The image of beings mounted on a yantra (machine) and set in motion by a cosmic force is a stunning metaphor for the zodiac wheel itself. The planets are the mechanism; the Divine is the mover. This verse contextualizes all of astrology within a spiritual framework — the chart is the yantra, and grace is the remedy.

How to Use This Shloka as a Remedy

When no planetary remedy seems sufficient, return to this verse. It redirects the native from external remedies to the inner source. Recite during evening prayer, especially on Ekadashi.

Commentary

Yantrārūḍhāni — 'mounted on a machine' — is one of the most vivid images in the entire Gita. We are not the drivers of our own fate; we are passengers on a cosmic vehicle. But the driver — Ishvara — is seated in our own heart. This is both humbling and deeply reassuring.
