Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, Verse 6: The Uncontrolled Mind
बन्धुरात्मात्मनस्तस्य येनात्मैवात्मना जितः । अनात्मनस्तु शत्रुत्वे वर्तेतात्मैव शत्रुवत् ॥ ६ ॥
bandhur ātmātmanas tasya yenātmaivātmanā jitaḥ anātmanas tu śhatrutve vartetātmaiva śhatruvat
Meaning in English
For one who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best friend. But for one who has not done so, the very same mind acts as the greatest enemy.
Astrological Significance
Rahu's influence creates obsessive, anxious, looping thought patterns. This verse names that experience precisely — an unconquered mind behaves like an enemy. It is the companion verse to BG 6.5 and together they form the complete Vedic framework for mental mastery.
Which Transit or Yoga Is This For?
Rahu transit over Moon, Rahu in 1st/4th/5th house, Moon-Rahu (Grahan) Yoga, anxiety during Rahu Mahadasha
How to Use This Shloka as a Remedy
Chant BG 6.5 and 6.6 together as a pair. The sequence — first the instruction to rise (6.5), then the explanation of what happens if you don't (6.6) — forms a complete mantra for mental discipline. Best recited at dawn.
Commentary
The phrase anātmanas — 'one who has not mastered the self' — describes the Rahu-afflicted native perfectly: restless, unsatisfied, pulled in all directions. The Gita does not moralize; it simply states the mechanical consequence of an untrained mind.
