Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, Verse 5: Self-Elevation
उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत् । आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मनः ॥ ५ ॥
uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet ātmaiva hyātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ
Meaning in English
Let a person lift themselves up by their own mind, and not let themselves fall down. The mind alone is one's friend, and the mind alone is one's enemy.
Astrological Significance
In Vedic astrology, the Moon represents the mind (manas). A weak, afflicted, or waning Moon — or yogas like Kemadruma — can make the native feel unsupported and mentally fragile. This verse is the direct remedy: the mind that harms you is the same mind that can save you.
